This is the world that Gardens & Villa explore on their new album, Music For Dogs. It's a world without much certainty. Crowdsourcing is the only surefire pathway to a definitive answer. Throughout the record, the band is keenly aware of the new politics of living simultaneously in and out of the digital world. The album opens with "Maximize Results", a frantic, paranoid love song for the modern day, in which love is pursued through waves of static under the watchful eye of the television.

While it may not be apparent on a cursory listen, the synthpop group Gardens & Villa underwent a lot of change in the time between last year’s middling Dunes and their third album, Music for Dogs. The band relocated from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles, and they reconfigured from a trio to a duo of founding members Chris Lynch and Adam Rasmussen. The two have spoken about the dissatisfaction behind the recording process of Dunes, largely borne out of pressure from their label and issues with their producer. After the dissolution of relationships both romantic and professional, the pair moved.

Gardens & Villa are a tumbling torrent of creativity. The Santa Barbara group move effortlessly from indie rock to psych, from folk-inflections to electronic bliss, retaining a certain essence at every juncture. New album 'Music For Dogs' - the band's second full length in just 18 months - will be released on August 21st through Secretly Canadian, a typically adventurous return. An expansive, ambitious and, above all, confident return, 'Music For Dogs' seems to exist within its own boundaries

In 2012, Gardens & Villa played Coachella among several other festival dates with bands such as The Shins and Fanfarlo. They covered "Gypsy" on the 2012 Just Tell Me That You Want Me: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac album. They also spent much of the year in Portland, Oregon, recording a new EP with Richard Swift They released their third album Music for Dogs in August 2015.

Though Music for Dogs has notably solid tunes at its core, the sweetened mechanical sound palette, buoyant vocals, and relentless leading rhythms really define the takeaway stamp of the record.
