The single "Moony Eyed Walrus" was released by Secretly Canadian on April 29, 2015 ahead of the sophomore album entitled Dancing at the Blue Lagoon, out June 23, 2015. The band enlisted Ryan Hadlock to engineer and produce the record. Davey Brozowski played drums and percussion on the record while Mat Santos and Rebecca Zeller of Ra Ra Riot played bass and strings. Moony Eyed Walrus is the first taste from that release, and I’m much delighted by how it sounds. Those Vampire Weekend-esque riffs and California vibes are still there, but it sounds like Cayucas has further developed their sound and matured it with a lush, big sound. It’s as if they’ve doused their sound canvas with a more complex and meticulous quality. Ultimately, Moony Eyed Walrus is a fun and jangly tune, and a fine return.

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve heard new offerings from Cayucas and named them one of the best new bands of 2013 off the strength of their debut, Bigfoot. The indie pop duo of twin brothers Zach and Ben Yudin is back with Moony Eyed Walrus off their sophomore album, Dancing At The Blue Lagoon. The surf is gnarly on this song, with groovy guitar stabs, big drums, and sweeps crashing together to propel the track forward. A couple of head-bobbing break downs are definitely worth mention too. The time away has done them well.
