2112 (pronounced "twenty-one twelve") is the fourth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on April 1, 1976, by Anthem Records. After finishing touring for its previous album, Caress of Steel, in early 1976, the band was in financial hardship due to the album's disappointing sales, unfavorable critical reception, and a decline in attendance at its shows.

2112 (pronounced "twenty-one twelve") is the fourth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush. Released on 1 April 1976, it features the seven-part title suite composed by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, with lyrics written by Neil Peart telling a dystopian story set in the year 2112. It is sometimes described as a concept album although the songs on the second side are unrelated to the suite. Rush repeated this arrangement on the 1978 album Hemispheres. 2112 is one of two Rush albums listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (the other being Moving Pictures)
Following the poor reception of their 1975 album Caress of Steel, Rush was being pressured by the record company to produce more radio-friendly songs. However, the band decided to ignore them, and went on to create another 20-minute epic – a decision that would ultimately spark the flame of Rush’s success. The story of how 2112 came to be serves as a reminder to believe in yourself, and not let others dictate your decisions. The band could have easily produced a radio-friendly album that could have spawned maybe a semi-successful single, but they went against the wishes of the record company and took the risk. By taking that risk, we have been given the honor of being able to watch Rush mature into arguably one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
