With an unequivocal polish and experimental edge, the band’s second album underscored just how ubiquitous the P-Funk sound had become by 1977.

Stretchin' Out in Bootsy's Rubber Band is the first album by American funk and soul band Bootsy's Rubber Band, an offshoot act of c led by bassist and vocalist William "Bootsy" Collins. It was released on January 30, 1976, on Warner Bros. The album was recorded around the same time as Parliament's Mothership Connection and Funkadelic's Let's Take It To The Stage at United Sound Systems in Detroit, Michigan. The album was produced by Collins and George Clinton

The Pinocchio Theory.

The band features Bootsy's brother Phelps "Catfish" Collins, Jr on guitar, Frankie Kash on drums, Frederick "Flintstone" Allen on drums and James Brown regulars Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley on horns. Guest appearances include saxophonist Randy and trumpeter Michael Brecker, and keyboardist Bernie Worrell, amongst others. Everything on the album is excellent, that is true of up-tempo smokers like "The Pinocchio Theory" and the title song as well as slow, moody, eerie offerings such as "What's a Telephone Bill?" and "Munchies For Your Love.

Similar to most of Bootsy's other work, it is divided between dance tracks and slow jams. The song "The Pinocchio Theory" inspired the George Clinton creation Sir Nose D'voidoffunk (see P-Funk mythology: the song says if you fake the funk, your nose will grow, and Sir Nose fakes the funk). The title track was inspiration for Eazy-E's 1988 track We Want Eazy, with Bootsy making a cameo appearance in the song's musical video.
