Description

The first flight of the initial prototype was in September 2001. Based on initial lessons the prototype was modified and reflown in May 2002. Further flight tests and modifications were carried out, with the prototype re-flying in its new form in March 2003. The production prototype design was started in 2006 and completed in 2009. The first series production started in the summer of 2009 and production deliveries to customers commenced in May 2010 A. .

Flight Instruments The Archaeopteryx is flown with a modern all-in-one hang glider flight instrument. 2. Archaeopteryx ground-school course – pilots’ handbook study and practical ground handling. 3. Archaeopteryx flight training under supervision of a flight instructor according the prescribed training programme – around 20 flights.

The flight capabilities of Archaeopteryx have been. debated for more than a century, ranging from preflight. to powered flight modes. Ostrom (1979) has argued that. mance of Archaeopteryx using a flight simulation method. and evaluate which kind of strategy would have been. more energy-saving for Archaeopteryx: ground takeoff or. tree takeoff. The aerodynamic theory on which flight simulation. programs are based is an adaptation of the well-known.

The Berlin specimen of the small feathered predatory dinosaur Archaeopteryx is among the best preserved and most beautiful fossils of the 13 known specimens. One of the central unanswered questions is, whether Archaeopteryx used its rich plumage for active flapping flight, or only passive gliding over the Solnhofen lagoonal landscape

Archaeopteryx flight feathers were asymmetrical. Archaeopteryx also had a wishbone – a bone that provides strength to the chest while flying – just like birds of today. Archaeopteryx’s first toes were reversed – as are those of modern birds. This may have allowed Archaeopteryx to grab onto and perch on branches. However, Archaeopteryx was very much still a dinosaur. For many years, Archaeopteryx was generally accepted as being the first known bird. It is in a group of dinosaurs known as Avialae, from which all modern birds are descended. Recently, older avialans such as Aurornis, which is believed to predate Archaeopteryx by about 10 million years, have been discovered in the Tiaojishan Formation, a dinosaur fossil hotspot in China. Archaeopteryx (from Ancient Greek αρχαιος archaios meaning 'ancient' and πτερυξ pteryx meaning 'feather' or 'wing', from the late Jurassic Period (Kimmeridgian stage, 155-150 million years ago) of what is now Germany, is the earliest and most primitive known avian.

When the first Archaeopteryx fossils were found in the early 1860s, they created a sensation, not least of all because just a year before, biologist Charles Darwin had published his theory of evolution by natural selection. The fossil was crowned Urvogel: the first bird. In the years since, Archaeopteryx has been the subject of intense study, including fierce debate over its flight capabilities.
