Hope Dies is the debut full-length studio album by Australian black metal act Misery´s Omen. The album was released in February 2008 by Worship Him Records. The basis in the music on this album is black metal, but calling this a regular black metal album would be anything but fair. There are both doomy sections, progressive/ experimental sections, mellow folk sections, beautiful acoustic sections and even a track that sounds like Sigh has been invived into the studio. I´m of course thinking of the handclap section in Fiendish Ghoul.

I´m positive and open to bands that are having their own style of music, or at least trying to create something that isn´t a blueprint of their favourite bands. Misery´s Omen is definitely a band with their own style. A style that is not a straight line, but rather a mixture of different musical directions blended together in a neat and precise formula. This Australian band have a progressive approach to much of their music, and with a musical aura that might suggest a mixture of Negative Plane and Swedish Änglagård with an obvious Heavy Metal edge to some of the guitars, I am not sure how to explain this band any further. It is definitely an album you will remember, and that alone is refreshing. But whether you like this or not is simply a matter of your mood and taste in music. I´ve had this playing over and over for days, and I like much of it, but it tends to be a bit too nice. An atmosphere that is too friendly but it is not boring. And will not be forgotten. If there is something Norwegian Worship Him Records can do, it's sign interesting bands. You have already read about Drowned in this issue, now I can inform you of another obscure and exiting band, Australian Misery's Omen. Like already mentioned Drowned this band too has a vague past with only demo tapes and 7" releases. But here we have the debut album and all you can do is throw yourself in the dust. Here you'll find everything from doom to death, experimetal music to dead seriousness from high to low (tunes). Misery's Omen does not make it easy for the listeners, the genres that is presented here are different but it's still easy to hear that it's from the same band and not a group of induviduals seeking identity. Brilliant, and a rarity in todays commercial and smooth metal-world. 5 out of 6 Scream Magazine Norway
