The cover painting was created by world-renowned horror-artist, Wes Benscoter (Slayer, Hypocrisy, Autopsy, Kreator, etc). In my opinion, he's right up there with Frank Frazetta, Michael Whelan, and Todd Schorr. Wickedly dubbed Omen of Disease, Broken Hope's sixth offering blasts out of the gates with the powerful Womb of Horrors followed by the excellent track Ghastly, which is without a doubt one of the best of the group's career. The rest of the album is perhaps a bit less noteworthy after those openers, but it goes the distance thanks to the quality of the songwriting and the interpretation as well as the violence of tracks such as Rendered into Lard, with its murderous riffs and head-spinning accelerations, not to mention carefully crafted guitar solos. In the fall of 2013, Broken Hope made a successful return on the scene with a good compromise between an old school sound coupled with more modern parameters that placed them solidly within the current American brutal death metal landscape while avoiding overly technical twists and putting the accent on full frontal riffs.

On Omen of Disease, Broken Hope are able to implement unique, catchy riffs, hardly reusing any on different songs. The guitar work is for sure the main element that makes each song stand out as its own. I'd say that the songs Omen of Disease, Give Me the Bottom Half, and Carnage Genesis are the strongest examples of the great riffing that can be found throughout the album. After listening to the entire album, I noticed that Broken Hope undoubtedly sounds extremely reminiscent of the Swedish death metal band "Bloodbath". Whether it's the half time verses coupled with brutal, catchy riffs, or the speeding fast blast beats and deep, guttural vocals, there's no denying the fact that Broken Hope was almost surely influenced by Bloodbath when writing the material for this record.
