Damage is a live recording of a 1993 tour by David Sylvian and Robert Fripp. It is taken from the final show of the tour. It was remixed by David Sylvian and re-released in standard jewel case packaging with different artwork (see article illustration) in 2001

Damage is derived from the closing shows of the 1993 Road to Graceland tour, which heralded the collaborative reunion of King Crimson's Robert Fripp (guitar) with David Sylvian (als), the former leader of Japan. This hour-plus set finds Sylvian in tremendous voice and Fripp sonically enveloping spaces and respecting silences in a bout of well-manicured fretwork. The pair is augmented by soon-to-be Krim members Pat Mastelotto (drums) and Trey Gunn (Chapman stick/vocals) as well as former Martha & the Muffins axeman Michael Brook (guitar).

Damage" in particular really grabs you. The Sylvian/Fripp collaboration bore enormous fruits- it's really a pity that they have yet to reconvene in any significant fashion. Nonetheless, "Damage" serves as a calling card for their collaboration, and it should not be overlooked. A stellar lineup, great performances. Fripp solos in fine form, but the other guitarists (especially Michael Brook) make great contributions too. I like these live versions better than the "First Day" studio ones.
