You in Reverse is the sixth full-length album released by indie rock band Built to Spill. The band added one new member for this album, making Built to Spill a quartet for the first time. It was also the first album since Ultimate Alternative Wavers not recorded or produced by Phil Ek. The lineup was Doug Martsch, Brett Nelson, Scott Plouf, and Jim Roth. The album was recorded in Portland, Oregon at Audible Alchemy. You in Reverse was released on April 11, 2006. All songs written by Built To Spill.
Where would you know MC Chris from? Well if you used to watch Adult Swim back in the early 2000s, then you might remember him as the character Hesh on Sealab 2021.
Although the sensibility did show up on most of their studio recordings, Built to Spill were long renowned for their ability to stretch out in concert, where the balance between two of their most dominant influences - noisy, electric Neil Young and noisy, angular Pavement-esque pop - tilted decidedly toward the former's extended jams.
The Built to Spill press kit, on the other hand, may be the next great American novel. First, a three page letter from the publicist. Secondly, an 8x10 publicity shot featuring Doug Martsch flanked by bandmates and sitting on a radiator playing a guitar. I'm sure he plays on the radiator all the time, or so the world of publicity shots would have me believe. My friends, I think when the next album's press kit arrives, I'm going to win my own petty game with that last sentence. It also recalls last year's fine Halo Benders release, The Rebels Not In, the album Martsch recorded with Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson and former Spinanes and current Built to Spill drummer Scott Plouf. And that's not a bad thing at all.
