Violator is the seventh studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was released on 19 March 1990 by Mute Records. Preceded by the singles "Personal Jesus" and "Enjoy the Silence" (a top-10 entry in both the United Kingdom and the United States), the album propelled the band into international stardom, and also yielded the singles "Policy of Truth" and "World in My Eyes"
White Williams: Violator. Considering Joe Williams’ background in noise rock, one would think that his debut album under the alias White Williams would be a flurry of shrill guitar feedback and abnormal strong structure. However, Williams’ freshman album Smoke was obviously inspired by the neo new wave movement sweeping the avant-garde music crowd. Complete with minimalist electro pop groove the album sounds eerily like a mixture between a young Beck and Moby. It was revealed late last year that Williams recorded most of Smoke on a single laptop in various apartments.

Nurtured in the arson-prone fatalism of Cleveland's DIY scene, 23-year-old Joe Williams, noise-rock dilettante and White Williams' mastermind, made a name for himself twice touring with Gregg Gillis (Girl Talk), Andrew Strasser, Frank Musarra (Hearts of Darknesses) and Luke Venezia (Drop the Lime). Together, through countless venues of ill-repute, they forced their cartooned audio effluvia in the ears of hapless art-students, transients and skin-heads.

Audio: White Williams, Violator. We've been blasting (playing at comfortable volume) the White Williams Smoke promo like crazy the past week or so since New York weather broke into some early Autumn, rainy type game and we kind of can't listen to More Songs About Buildings and Food for a few years unless we want to hate it forever. Oddly enough, when we went to see what Williams was up to (touring with Dan Deacon and Girl Talk in September), we found this not-on-our-promo track sitting there sounding all awesome. The single "New Violence" and also excellent "Route to Palm" as well.
