Arkells are a Canadian rock band, formed in Hamilton, Ontario. In 2006, they signed with Dine Alone Records, and have since signed with Universal Records Canada and Last Gang Records. They are managed by Last Gang Management. They have released five albums, two EPs and a number of singles that have charted in Canada. The band has won multiple Juno Awards, including one for their album High Noon in 2015.

Morning Report is by far the most honest and open Kerman has been in his songwriting, and this transparency breaks down a barrier between the songwriter and the fans, showing the raw and messy emotions that often come with growing pains. It could be said that Morning Report isn’t for the fans, though. If it were, Arkells would have pumped out a second-rate version of High Noon and moved on. Instead, the fourth album shows the band pushing the barrier of mainstream music and aiming for a breakthrough outside of the Canadian market.

Arkells Morning Report (Last Gang Records). Hamilton, Ontario-based group Arkells have won four Juno Awards (Canadian Grammy), but, unfortunately, most Americans are unfamiliar with the group. Arkells hail from Canada’s Steel City, Hamilton, and their blue collar roots fit well into this, the group’s fourth record. The former recalls early Coldplay, but Kerman’s contributions make the song worthwhile. Hell, there are some lesser songs (especially in the album’s second half), but with stark lyrical honesty throughout, Morning Report is able to rise above the standard. Passenger Seat rings somewhere between a Copeland and Coldplay ballad, but the simple lyrical hook is surprisingly sharp.
