Erwin started on trumpet at age four. He led his own big band in 1941-42 and 1946. In the 1950s he played Dixieland jazz in New Orleans, and in the 1960s formed his own trumpet school with Chris Griffin.

Trumpeter Pee Wee Erwin, an excellent Dixieland-based player who never really became all that famous, led the regular house band at Nick's for most of the 1950s. The first half of this collector's album features Erwin in a sextet live from Nick's that also includes trombonist Andy Russo, clarinetist Phil Alivella, pianist Billy Maxted, bassist Jack Fay and drummer Cliff Leeman. The latter section of the album is from a 1965 concert with trombonist Lou McGarity, Bob Wilber (on clarinet and soprano), pianist Dave McKenna, bassist Roland Evans and drummer Sonny Igoe

George Erwin, known as Pee Wee Erwin (May 30, 1913 in Falls City, Nebraska – June 20, 1981 in Teaneck, New Jersey), was an American jazz trumpeter. Erwin started on trumpet at age four. He played in several territory bands before joining the groups of Joe Haymes (1931–33) and Isham Jones (1933–34). He then moved to New York City, where he was prolific as a studio musician, performing on radio and in recording sessions.
