Ultimate Dixieland: The Pure Sound of Dixieland Jazz, Vol. 1. Tin Roof Blues. Listen to The Golden Era Of Dixieland Jazz: 1887-1937, Vol. 2 now.
This LP, the first of two, has some excellent Dixieland by an all-star group comprised of trumpeter Pee Wee Erwin, trombonist Vic Dickenson, clarinetist Buster Bailey, pianist Claude Hopkins, bassist Milt Hinton and drummer George Wettling. One can certainly argue that the swing stylists are capable of playing more challenging music than this typical repertoire (which includes "The Saints," "Royal Garden Blues," "Muskrat Ramble" and "Tin Roof Blues") but they do a fine job with the potentially predictable music.
