The Gift of Purpose" is a Cuneiform Record, in digipak format, with cover design by Bill Ellsworth. It pained me greatly to learn that after 40 years of giving such great music to the world (and definitely being one of the coolest people in the world), that Hugh's family would find themselves in such circumstances and I am doing everything I can to help

Learn about and follow jazz musician Hugh Hopper (Bass, electric) at All About Jazz. Hopper left Soft Machine in May 1973, shortly after the release of his first solo album, 1984, which had good jazz-rock instrumentals on one side, and a long experimental and partly improvised composition/collage on the other. 1984 is obviously the title of a book by George Orwell, about a possible Stalinist regime ruling Britain. I named my LP after it because it is a book that impressed me greatly when I first read it. The titles on the album - Miniluv, Minitrue, etc. - are the names in the book of the four ministries which control the country  . Cuneiform Records 2010.

Hugh Colin Hopper (29 April 1945 – 7 June 2009) was a British progressive rock and jazz fusion bass guitarist Hugh Hopper. 2008: The Gift Of Purpose (live recording by Bone). 2014: Volume 1: Memories (archival collection). 2014: Volume 2: Frangloband (Triton Club, Paris, 2004).

Memories" is a progressive rock song written by Hugh Hopper in the mid-1960s and originally recorded by his group The Wilde Flowers, although their versions were not released until many years later. The Wilde Flowers was a predecessor to the group Soft Machine, who also covered the song, as did associated artists Robert Wyatt (released as the B-side of his single "I'm a Believer" and on his compilation album Eps), and by Daevid Allen (on his album Banana Moon, with vocals by Wyatt).
