Out of the Blues, set for release on July 27, 2018 via Concord Records, is the latest album of originals and covers from American music icon Boz Scaggs.
Out of the Blues is the nineteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs. The album, a mixture of vintage classics and four original compositions by close friend Jack "Applejack" Walroth, is the last in a trilogy that began with 2013's Memphis and continued with 2015's A Fool to Care. The album contains covers of songs by blues musicians including Bobby "Blue" Bland, Jimmy Reed, Magic Sam, and Neil Young. It was released on July 27, 2018, on Concord Records
This set looks back to his 1965 debut album Boz (a solo acoustic covers set released only in Sweden by Polydor) and 1997's criminally overlooked Come on Home, a woolly, house-rocking collection of (mostly) vintage R&B and soul-blues covers, for its foundation.
Scaggs & Band (Columbia, 1971). In recent years, Scaggs has revisited the roots he began to nurture living in Texas as a child and, accordingly, Out Of The Blues is the final instalment of an unofficial trilogy, including Memphis (429 Records, 2013) and A Fool to Care (429 Records?, 2015). Here Boz and his pedigree accompanists stylishly interweave songs recorded by Bobby Blue Bland, Magic Sam, and Jimmy Reed, with originals that Boz co-wrote with longtime San Francisco bluesman/eccentric Jack Walroth, plus a surprising take on Neil Young's "On The Beach
Boz Scaggs will release a new studio album, Out of the Blues, on July 27, via Concord Records. The nine-track collection features covers of select vintage blues and R&B songs, as well as four tunes penned by Scagg’s longtime friend, Jack Walroth. In the midst of a musical renaissance, the versatile itarist has created a highly personal, soulful modern repertoire. Born in Ohio, raised in Texas and Oklahoma, Scaggs reconnected with his earliest musical and regional influences

Boz Scaggs will complete a "so-called trilogy" of albums exploring his musical roots with the July 27 release of Out Of The Blues - whose opening track, "Rock and Stick," is premiering below. That song in particular always intrigued me because of the lyric," explains Scaggs, who co-wrote the track "Little Miss Night and Day" with Walroth for the album. I had the song musically in my head for some time and I actually sung it myself years ago on a demo. It's a regular 12-bar, bluesy kind of format that's got a little reggae thing to it that makes it unique.
