Woob2 4495 is the second full-length album from Woob, the stage name of ambient musician Paul Frankland. It was released in the UK on em:t records on 21 September 1995. While not generally regarded by ambient music fans to be as cohesive or ground-breaking as its predecessor, Woob 1194, Woob2 4495 still contains material reckoned to be among the best ambient music released in the 1990s – particularly the 25-minute-long "Depart", and the album's closer, "Later".

Perfect work by Paul Frankland.

While it may not have had the impact of 1194 or have been thought well of by Frankland himself, I think this is still a worthy effort and well worth the price it commands. The Pondlife -> Woobed -> Creek progression are amazing, and while Depart is great as well, it seems to drag on about 10 minutes longer than it should have - those last 10 feel like a completely disconnected piece to me.

Maybe not as good as the first album - that had the organic flow from start untill end - but with Pondlife, Creek and Depart Paul Frankland has created yet again beauty and uplift. Especially Depart I consider to be among the best modern day music productions. It has the tension and alienation of the 5th symphony of Mahler, the spheres of Eno's ambient 4 and Apollo, and the fragility and desolation of Dead Can Dance's Yulunga. Magic!

Nowhere near as good as the first Woob release - 1194 but if you liked that then you'll probably not be offended by this.
