Sweet Sensation's three members don't have great voices by any means, and most of the songs on Love Child are forgettable and unbearably cliche-ridden. But the CD does have its moments. One Good Man" and a cover of the Supremes' "Love Child" show how catchy SS can be when they find the right groove. Unfortunately, they don't find it nearly often enough on this generally disappointing album.

Sweet Sensation was originally formed in 1985. One afternoon, David came by to meet Betty at Margie's house in Manhattan with a boombox. Sweet Sensation was signed to a production deal with Platinum Vibe Productions, and recording started on their first album, with Betty Lebron on lead vocals. Using "Hooked on You" as an introduction, the trio was signed to Next Plateau Records. Hooked on You" was released on the Next Plateau label, along with their second single, "Victim of Love (Goodbye Baby). In 1990, their second album, Love Child, was released, containing what would turn out to be their biggest hit, the ballad "If Wishes Came True," which reached Number One on the Billboard Hot 10. .

Love Child was the second album released by the New York-based Latin freestyle trio Sweet Sensation. Released April 1990, this was the follow-up to the group's platinum-selling 1988 debut album, Take It While It's Hot. Like its predecessor, this album had an up-tempo feel, but also included lavish R&B-styled ballads. The album's title song was a cover version of a R&B/ Pop smash by the Supremes.
