Journey To The Centre Of The Earth is the second album from the English keyboardist Rick Wakeman, released on A&M Records. The album is a live recording of his second of two concerts on January 18 1974 at the Royal Festival Hall in London. With it's concept based on Jules Verne's same-titled science fiction novel, the album tells the story of Professor Lidenbrok, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans, who follow a passage to the Earth's center originally discovered by Arne Saknussemm, an Icelandic alchemist

Keyboardist Rick Wakeman had wanted to make an album that told a story with its music after his father took him to see Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev. In November 1971, he started work on a record based on the 1864 science fiction novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne. He put the project on hold until recording for his debut studio release, The Six Wives of Henry VIII, had finished in October 1972.

The DVD tracklisting printed on the inside cover lacks the first and last tracks that appear in the DVD menu. The printed tracklisting also contains an error (track DVD-8 is called "Catherine Howard/I) Merlin", when in fact "Merlin" is a separate song on this release). The DVD menu tracklisting omits track DVD-9 ("Merlin"). As a result, both tracklistings have been combined here.There is no CD tracklisting on this release, and the tracklisting which appears in Windows Media Player does not match the actual tracks on the release. The iTunes tracklisting has been used, though track CD-3 title is incorrect as there is no element of "Merlin" in the track (there are, instead, elements of "Waltzing Matilda" and "The Day Thou Gavest Lord Hath Ended").
The format index tracks appear as titles on the discs.
The DVD mould SID code is etched into the plastic directly above the printed mastering SID code in the mirror layer.
