Ted Leo started the Pharmacists essentially as a solo project in 1999. In 1999, he recorded the album tej leo(?), Rx, pharmacists, a solo effort which was highly experimental and mixed elements of punk rock, reggae, dub and audio experimentation. In 2000, Leo expanded the project to a full band including James Canty on guitar, Jodi . on bass and Amy Farina on drums. Touch and Go Records years. In 2006, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists left Lookout! amidst financial crises within the label, and signed a new contract with Chicago-based Touch and Go Records. Split with Zach Galifianakis.

In an age when monumental events like the attack on Pearl Harbor serve as marginal backdrops for big-screen romantic dramas, the need for accurate historical preservation is dire. Nevertheless, each has had one standout song pinioning its center, a song that digs closer to the marrow. On Ted Leo and the Pharmacists ’ debut, The Tyranny of Distance, it was Timorous Me, a track that’s baroque Celtic swirls, giant chorus and winning melody resounded across the rest of the album.

Leo came from Bloomfield, New Jersey. The band consists of singer-songwriter and guitarist Ted Leo, guitarist James Canty, bassist Marty 'Violence' Key, and drummer Chris Wilson. After his previous band, Chisel, broke up in the late 1990s, Ted recorded the Tej Leo(?) Rx Pharmacists album in 1999, followed by the Treble in Trouble EP in 2000.
