On March 16 & 17, 2007, Zach Brock and The Coffee Achievers recorded their first live CD at the Jazz Factory in Louisville, KY. The four sets were captured.

The relentlessly cooking and very original Live At The Jazz Factory is the third album from violinist Zach Brock's band, The Coffee Achievers, following their eponymous 2003 debut on Secret Fort and Chemistry (Secret Fort, 2005). The violin in jazz, especially that of the mainstream, can't get no respect, despite Regina Carter's 2006 MacArthur Award. Brock wishes to remedy that situation, composing and playing jazz that is mainstream by default, only because it is not avant-garde. Live At The Jazz Factory will make a believer of those holding even the slightest prejudice against the violin that Brock is, indeed, a musician first and a violinist second, and that the Coffee Achievers can take down the house. Brock formed The Coffee Achievers in 2002 after meeting keyboardist Sam Barsh and bassist Matt Wigton at Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead residency at the Kennedy Center. Their debut CD attracted major attention both in the jazz world and on the college scene. Zach Brock And The Coffee Achievers arrived a while back with little fanfare. The top-notch packaging was impressive for an unknown, but what was really surprising was Zach Brock himself. The Chicago violinist plays with easy virtuosity based in swing Jazz and post-bop. His compositions groove in a way that recalls a gypsy swing version of Charlie Hunter, which is tribute to the strong support cast on keyboard, bass and drums who take the tunes out and work through them.
