Ratt is the self-titled sixth studio album by the American glam metal band Ratt. Often referred to as "1999" by fans (partially to avoid confusion with their EP, which was also self-titled), this album saw the band's musical direction shift to a more blues-influenced rock sound and further away from their previous glam metal roots. Best joke track is "Piranha," a sort of super-fast metal version of Descendents-type hardcore, "about a fish. Most offensive is frat-party rap "3 . whose fake African jungle chants are a politically incorrect minstrel show. The guitarist steals some tasty Eddie Van Halen tricks here and there. The group, which also featured vocalist Eric Martin and former Tina Turner drummer Pat Torpey, released their solid Atlantic Records debut in 1989, but it was on 1991's Lean Into It that the band hit artistic and commercial paydirt. The album explodes out of the gate with "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song)" a double-time shuffle that features both Gilbert and Sheehan - you guessed it - playing solos with power tools. But Lean Into It ultimately settles into a tuneful, mid-tempo groove that is ultimately much more satisfying.

Finding early promotional copies of this album years later is like finding unicorn blood. Ridin' Dirty" is UGK's most important album and one of the best rap albums ever recorded. The album gets its unique identity from Bun and Pimp's yin and yang connection. Bun is the surgical emcee, while Pimp is the flamboyant philosopher.
