Description

Deep Purple - Machine Head (1972).

From This Day" lyrics. You gotta Stand tall and cut away the ties Drop walls and hold that head up high The world is fast and youth ain't gonna wait So grab a hold before it gets to late Bare your soul and strip away the cold Of withered life thats past so gray and cold Cause all the pain that thats filled these eyes you. see Was made to bleed just recently Tears that made me Ashamed to be me But that gave me Strength to see me Made a spark that Lit the dark Let me shine

Machine Head is an American heavy metal band from Oakland, California. The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn and bassist Adam Duce. The band's aggressive musicianship made it one of the pioneering bands in the new wave of American heavy metal, and it is also considered to be part of the second wave of thrash metal bands from the 1990s. Machine Head's current lineup comprises Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern

Overall this album shows how big Machine Head's range can be, fully submerging themselves in the nu-metal sound they pull off surprisingly well while having only merely dipped their toes in it. This album didn't kill their career as many elitist metalheads just weren't ready for a change, plus seeing how it is their best selling should be a sign how much the public loved this nu-metal sound. Probably the most obvious of those nu metal songs are ‘Desire to Fire’ and ‘From this Day’, the latter of which I think has one of the best choruses on the album and a certain ballsy swagger to it, even if Robb Flynn’s rapping could use some work. Then there are songs like ‘The Blood, the Sweat, the Tears’, that might have fitted onto ‘The More Things Change’ if the production was changed and the guitars brought back.

Machine head - catharsis. Everything old is nü again. Let’s just tear off this Band-Aid: The new Machine Head is a 74-minute rap metal album with a song that sounds like the Dropkick Murphys in the middle. The Soulfly tribal breakdowns on Volatile, the drop tuning on Beyond The Pale, the whiteboy hip-hop of Triple Beam (nothing more street than gymnastics metaphors), the anti-gentrification screed California Bleeding –they’re effective in the same primal way that the best Rage Against The Machine and Korn hits were back in the day.

With nine studio albums under their studded belts, the Californian metallers have embraced, thrash, groove metal, nu metal and good ol' balls-out heavy metal in their almost 30-year career. But what are their real standout moments? Here are the 10 best Machine Head songs ever. As much as Machine Head’s detractors like to sneer at the band’s supposed drift into nu-metal territory for their third album, the reality is that The Burning Red is a dark, sludgy and drug-addled affair that just happens to have a couple of bits of quick-fire rapping on it. It also has this pounding paean to hard work and determination on it, and it’s a song that is rarely absent from Machine Head set lists to this day. It’s all about the blood, the sweat and the beers.
