Demos of songs from Sleigh Bells' Treats first started making their way around the Internet last fall, and they immediately served as conversation starters. The distortion in early track "Crown on the Ground" was so intense that every other second the song seemed on the verge of shutting down. Straight A's" has some of the electro-punk rage of Crystal Castles, the less frantic tracks like "Rachel" have a bit of shoegaze, and the pacing of the album is just so, taking you right to edge in one song and then pulling you back a few inches in the next. Though both Krauss and Miller have been making music for a while- he in the hardcore band Poison the Well, she in some kind of manufactured teen-pop group that never got off the ground- it's easy to see them as a connected band with the right gimmick at the right time.

Album · 2010 · 11 Songs. The duo's 2010 debut album works off these extremes with blistering results: Guitarist Derek Miller dials up his effects well past the red zone with a salvo of gunshot beats ("Tell 'Em"), some blown-out riffs ("Infinity Guitars"), and even a swinging Funkadelic sample ("Rill Rill"); soothing it all are Alexis Krauss' precious purrs, which pour over everything like honey on a. fresh wound.
One of 2010’s most attention-getting debuts, Sleigh Bells' Treats comes on strong. Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss craft a sound that’s all climax, that sounds like cheap stereos turned up to 11 and boom cars that might actually explode. Nearly all the parts of all the songs on Treats are saturated with distortion that makes them feel even louder than they actually are (which is pretty loud to begin with). Yet their approach is far from lo-fi, and it’s worlds apart from the kind of noise pop that looks back to the halcyon days of four-track recording in the ‘90s.

Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss, the him and the her behind new . feted Brooklyn sensation Sleigh Bells, hail from two pretty distant areas on the musical map. He learned his chops playing guitar in Miami metalcore ragers Poison the Well. She, meanwhile, got her break playing in a teen pop band called Rubyblue. Curiously, though, you can hear the influence of both extremes in their debut album Treats. Much like Crystal Castles, this is a group that specialises in mixing up the sweet and the nasty
