Description

Sleigh Bells Album: Jessica Rabbit (2016) Canciones: 1 - It's Just Us Now 2 - Torn Clean 3 - Lightning Turns Sawdust Gold 4 - I Can't Stand You Anymore . .

Jessica Rabbit is the fourth studio album by American noise pop duo Sleigh Bells. It was released on November 11, 2016, by Torn Clean, the duo's own label, in partnership with Sinderlyn.

Sleigh Bells introduced themselves with Treats, an album with 999 ways to reinvent fun with zero idea of how to retain structure once the fun was found. Sleigh Bells were a sound, not a business model. The biggest surprise of all, perhaps, was that they somehow managed to crank out two more totally awesome records, each one showing significant growth over the prior one, without much change at all to the model. On Jessica Rabbit, the dichotomy of Derek and Alexis forms like Voltron into a mystical and ravenous creature. It's simultaneously the most challenging and inviting thing the band has given us yet, and it's essential listening for those who need a new soundtrack for fighting their demons. If you look past all the crunch and gristle of the Sleigh Bells sound, there's actually a pretty well articulated narrative cycle from the band's first album to their fourth.

Jessica Rabbit is still clearly a Sleigh Bells album – the recognisable thud of Derek Miller’s distorted guitar lines on bruising opening track It’s Just Us Now stands as punishing confirmation of that – but there’s a wider sonic palette on show than on previous efforts. DIY. Energising Sleigh Bells with rocket-fuel, ‘Jessica Rabbit’ stands up as the band’s most consistent record since ‘Treats’.

For Sleigh Bells, the blurring boundaries between pop's mainstream and underground were a blessing and a curse. More importantly, by the time they released Bitter Rivals, it felt like Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss had exhausted their music's extremes

Sleigh Bells’ latest LP, Jessica Rabbit, is an album about all these things; it’s a record about anguished love and betrayal, relationships gone sour and how to carry on when it feels like it’s just you against the world. But in its closeness to something greater, something far more menacing and threatening, these ideas take on a strange new semblance, transforming miniscule personal details into political rallying cries. It’s flawed and abrasive but it’s also extremely relevant, funneling emotionality through the geyser of a nation in crisis, a world flirting with its own destruction.

The noise-pop duo of Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller arrived at a time when e bands were written off as quirky novelties rather than championed as innovators. Of course, anyone who’s still subscribing to that narrative clearly hasn’t been paying attention. As the first notes of the band’s recently released new album Jessica Rabbit make abundantly clear, four albums into their career, Sleigh Bells have created their most expansive and ambitious collection to date.

He worked steadily on Jessica Rabbit for three years, considering every last note, even down to the inclusion of the playful word ‘katydids’ in Baptism By Fire. Was it simply too playful? I was really iffy about that, and it drove me nuts, whether to leave it in or not, he says, sighing. He loves his old Mom Pop company, and the longtime fan there who signed Sleigh Bells, Michael Goldstone. He’s an incredible human being and a man of his word, and I would run into a brick wall for him, he says. But we signed to Mom Pop in 2010, and the music industry is a completely different animal six years later, so I don’t even deal with it anymore. Our manager handles that entire side of the band, so Alexis and I are free to just worry about the creative end. Miller hasn’t settled down with anyone yet-he’s still dreaming of his elusive, curvaceous Jessica Rabbit.
