Released March 3, 2017. Volcano is the 2nd full-length album of Psychedelic Rock band from Kettering, Temples. It was BBC’s Radio album of the day on March 9th and 6th on the UK Independent Albums Charts. Volcano Singles were: Certainty, Strange Or Be Forgotten, Born Into The Sunset. There are two bonus tracks one on the Japanese release: Henry’s Cake and another one at the FNAC release called Fortune. Volcano came out via Fat Possum Records. It was entirely self-produced in James’ own home (aka Pyramid Studio at Kettering).

There’s no way I’m saying that the music found within the grooves of Volcano isn’t good, what I am saying is that it’s not at all what I’d expected from all the hype. Riding on the heels of their 2014 stellar achievement Sun Structures, an atmosphere for a new version of psychedelic folk to ride i. here I was instantly reminded that I hadn’t listened to early T Rex in years, with this release also bringing to light early David Bowie and the Syd Barrett’s years with Pink Floyd, to whom the band obviously.

How unfortunate it is, then, that the vinyl version of their second album, "Volcano", is so disappointing. like they're playing at one end of a tunnel and I'm listening at the other. The album itself comes with a card for a free MP3 download of the album from the pressing company (Memphis Vinyl), and the MP3 version easily sounds a lot better.

Genre: Neo-Psychedelia. Volcano is a fun album of tightly-crafted, catchy melodies. But it’s in no way reinventing the genre the band members so keenly idolise.

Temples might be missing the spark of genius and/or insanity that set their idols apart, and are occasionally guilty – as on ‘In My Pocket’ or ‘How Would You Like To Go?’ – of using psychedelic window-dressing to embellish otherwise unremarkable songs, but they remain supremely gifted melodists and assiduous students of the past. Volcano’ may rank as more of a technical progression than an artistic one, but it’s no less impressive for that. Release Date: March 3, 2017 Record Label: Heavenly Recordings.
