Friends" is a song written by Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson and Al Jardine for the American rock band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1968 album Friends. It was also released as a single, with "Little Bird" as the B-side. The single peaked at in the United States and in the United Kingdom. The song was recorded on March 13, 1968.

The song was attempted by the Beach Boys in 1976 during recording sessions for their album 15 Big Ones. In 2011, It was rewritten by Terry jacks and Al Jardine for his album A Postcard from California and with several of his Beach Boys bandmates making a guest appearance

Released when Cream and Jimi Hendrix were at their apex, the low-key pleasantries of Friends seemed downright irrelevant in mid-1968. Today it sounds better, but it's certainly one of the group's more minor efforts, as the members started to divide the songwriting more or less evenly among themselves, rather than letting Brian Wilson provide most of the material.

Released in late June 1968, 'Friends' found the Beach Boys settling in after the many conflicts that derailed the making of their epic 'Smile' album. Smiley Smile' came first, but it was more of a bunt than a grand slam. With 'Friends,' the group crafted an inviting album full of terrific songs. Sessions for the record had started in February at Wilson's home studio. Over the next few months, the band worked on the songs. The album's title cut was released as a single in April, making it to No. 47 - not a great shwoing

The Beach Boys singles chronology. Do It Again " (1968). Bluebirds over the Mountain " (1968). Do It Again" was first released on an LP in 1969 for the band's 20/20 album. This version added a fade which consists of hammering and drilling sound effects originating from the Smile "Workshop" session recorded on November 29, 1966. This session was rerecorded for the solo album Brian Wilson Presents Smile (2004). In 2011 the surviving Beach Boys; Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks came together in the studio to re-record "Do It Again" as part of their 50th anniversary celebration. The re-recorded version featured Mike Love (verses) and Brian Wilson (bridge) on lead vocals with longtime Beach Boys and Brian Wilson associate, Jeff Foskett, performing the falsetto vocals.

The Beach Boys Concert" album, recorded in Sacramento, California, became the first 'live' album to top the charts. Murray Wilson however, never seemed to let up on the constant pressure he put on the band. He was a demanding and intimidating man who insisted on controlling the group's every move. An anniversary show that would see Brian Wilson rejoin Mike Love and Al Jardine on stage appeared in doubt when Brian announced in May 2011 that he was very close to retiring from touring. However, the three remaining Beach Boys did come together to record a charity single called "Don't Fight The Sea" to raise cash for the relief effort in Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March, 2011

On May 16, 1966, The Beach Boys debuted their 11th album, "Pet Sounds. This wasn't immediately a cause for celebration. There wasn't much time to bask in the success, or lack thereof," Al Jardine, a founding member of The Beach Boys, said with a laugh, adding, "It was not received very well at the label. Pet Sounds" was a departure from their earlier work, with the group being mostly known for sugary surfing songs and rock releases. Shortly after the album's debut, the band was pressured to start recording again.
