Sloop John B" (originally published as "The John B. Sails") is a Bahamian folk song from Nassau. A transcription by Richard Le Gallienne was published in 1916, and a version was included in Carl Sandburg's The American Songbag in 1927. Since the early 1950s there have been many recordings of the song with variant titles including "I Want to Go Home" and "Wreck of the John B".

Alan Jardine, a member of the original Beach Boys, has written a fun-filled pirate adventure based on the classic folk song Sloop John B. A young boy and hi. .A founding member of the Beach Boys retells one of their famous songs about how a young boy and his grandfather defeat the pirates that take over their boat. It was originally a traditional West Indies folk song, possibly recorded earliest by The Weavers under the title "Wreck of the John B", the song taken from a collection by Carl Sandburg (1927). Alan Lomax made a field recording of the song in Nassau, 1935, under the title "Histe Up the John B. Sail".

Alan Jardine was born in Lima, OH, on September 3, 1942, and moved to Hawthorne, CA, when he was a young child. Al Jardine and Brian Wilson went to school together at Hawthorne High and both played on the football team. Some biographies on the band call Al Jardine the "lost Beach Bo. After all, he was the only member of the band who was not a Wilson, or related to a Wilson. But it was Jardine's mom who helped pay for instruments when the group recorded Surfin' and Jardine who played bass on the track. Surfin' went to number 75 on the Billboard Charts. He also co-produced . for what that is worth).

Alan, who has always been an integral part of the band's vocal blend, sang lead on "Help Me Rhonda," a hit for the group in late spring of 1965. It topped the charts just a few weeks before the recording of "Sloop John B," which is where he begins his Pet Sounds recollections. ALAN: "The first thing I remember from Pet Sounds was 'Sloop John . I think we were in the middle of a session at Western, it might have been for 'Let Him Run Wild' and I had some time alone with Brian
