Goldfrapp are an English electronic music duo from London, formed in 1999. Goldfrapp's second album Black Cherry, which incorporated glam rock and synthpop sounds into their music, was released in 2003.
Head First dives into luscious, eminently danceable synth pop that's almost as far removed from the sleek shuffle beats of Black Cherry and Supernature as their previous album was. This time, Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory look to the ‘80s for inspiration, but not the brittle sound that was fashionable to ape in the late 2000s, like La Roux and Little Boots. Instead, they explore the uber-glossy productions, staccato melodies, and dramatic key shifts that were the hallmarks of anthems that some might not want to admit they liked decades later.
If the aim was to make a more commercially viable album than Seventh Tree, they’ve succeeded almost to the point of looking sarcastic
Head First (Goldfrapp album). 2010 studio album by Goldfrapp. Alison Goldfrapp explained that the upbeat nature of the album was inspired by her desire to create something "a little bit like Supernature, but that had a warmer sound-maybe not as hard. Describing their previous album Seventh Tree as an "intimate, dreamy, more introspective album" which was created in response to deep unhappiness with her personal life following the. tiring Supernature tour, Head First was a reaction to wanting "to get out the synths again, put your hands in the air" and "set about making an 'up' album.
For the last decade they’ve been making extremely listenable music, from the austere chill of 2000’s debut Felt Mountain, via the Black Forest electro-Weimar wolf porn of 2003’s Black Cherry, to the retro-futuristic electro disco glitter of Supernature in 2005 – but it’s always seemed as though Alison and Will have been the ones to hold open a.
Goldfrapp, Head First (Mute) Release Date: March 23. . duo Goldfrapp made a surprising detour away from synth-based pop into acoustic-driven folk and ballads on 2008's "Seventh Tree," which reached a career-best No. 48 on The Billboard 200. But it's right back to the dance floor in full force on "Head First," led by the single "Rocket," an irresistible party starter straight out of an early '80s Giorgio Moroder soundtrack
Nevertheless, it underlines the consequence Mute is pinning on Goldfrapp's fifth album. Her last, 2008's folk-influenced Seventh Tree, sold substantially less than its platinum predecessor Supernature, evidence more of the mainstream public's continuing resistance to anything that smacks of the morris man and the hey-nonny-no than of a decline in musical quality.
The best moments on Goldfrapp’s album Head First - Believer and the title track - also double as its uncoolest ones. March 12 2010, 11:30am, The Times. This time last year every emerging female singer seemed to have assimilated elements of the Goldfrapp sound into her sonic armoury - from the glam-dram otherworldliness of Lady Gaga to Ladyhawke’s empowered electropop. If Alison Goldfrapp and her co-conspirator Will Gregory felt a beatific sense of oneness with the world as they went into this fifth album, the feeling seems to have been compounded by the singer’s blooming relationship with the.
