In 1990, the Fat Boys sued Miller Brewing Company for, among other things, unlawful use of the Hugga-Hugga. Lite Beer had appropriated this beat-boxing sound-invented inside the mouth of Darren Buff Love Robinson-for a 1987 TV ad featuring a weirdly caramelized Joe Piscopo looking like he’d swallowed an inflatable exercise ball. In the pursuant legal brief, the Hugga-Hugga would be cited alongside the Fat Boys’ signature Brrr, the alveolar trill of a tongue that sounds conversant in bank alarm. More mocked than understood, the noises at stake in that lawsuit can be heard in all their thunder and glory on Stick ‘Em, a track from the Fat Boys first album, revived this month by Traffic Entertainment. The CD reissue comes in a pizza box, a triumph of packaging that could hold a 6-inch mini (thin crust).

The fact is that they were among the best and most popular rappers of the mid-1980s. Cool J, and Whodini, the Fat Boys were the finest that hip-hop's "Second Generation" (as it was called) had to offer. After making some noise as the Disco Three, the rotund Brooklynites changed their name to the Fat Boys in 1984 and hit big with this excellent debut album, which is humorous, wildly entertaining, and unapologetically funky. Everything from "Fat Boys" to the amusing "Jailhouse Rap" proves that their rapping skills were first-rate

The album features three the Billboard singles: "The Fat Boys Are Back", "Hard Core Reggae" and "Don't Be Stupid". The song "Pump It Up" was performed in the movie Krush Groove during the Disco Fever scene
