Fat Boys is the self-titled first studio album by hip hop group The Fat Boys on May 29, 1984 by Sutra Records. Album was produced by Kurtis Blow. LP is dedicated to the memory of Rebecca Wimbely and William (Divine) Santos. Album peaked at number 48 on the US Billboard 200, and number 6 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on May 6, 1985.

The Fat Boys are an American hip hop trio from Brooklyn, New York City, that emerged in the early 1980s. The group was briefly known originally as the Disco 3, originally composed of Mark "Prince Markie Dee" Morales, Damon "Kool Rock-Ski" Wimbley and Darren "Buff Love" Robinson, who died of a heart attack during a bout with respiratory flu in 1995. The Beach Boys: Wipeout (1987 Video). The music video begins with an announcement of a boxing match, The Fat Boys and The Beach Boys are attending the match. The match is interrupted by a fight. In the following scene, The Fat Boys load up a car with swimsuits and then drive off. The Beach Boys are driving in a dune buggy through the city. Both bands go around the city in the direction of a beach, while they perform the song and animate the inhabitants of the city to come to the beach.

In 1987, the Fat Boys’ recording of The Twist - with added vocals by the original 1960’s song’s singer Chubby Checker - was an instant hit, and garnered huge airplay, and that same year the hefty rappers recorded the Surfaris’ song Wipeout, with vocal help from the Beach Boys. Both songs appeared on their fourth album, Crushin’, released on August 14th. At the time, 60s-style surfing and SoCal beach culture were experiencing something of a revival, even in NYC, and the Fat Boys may have been hip-hop’s earliest acknowledgment of SoCal beach culture.
