Pleased To Meet Me. "Please retry". While some continue to champion the Replacements' Don't Tell a Soul and All Shook Down exit albums, Pleased to Meet Me truly represents the last vital effort of a great band beginning its descent. The first album released after founding lead guitarist Bob Stinson's official departure, Pleased nevertheless retains plenty of the Mats' innate punky drive, albeit here more focused and tempered. Group avatar Paul Westerberg feuded with Memphis producer Jim Dickinson (brought in because of his production of Big Star's melancholy classic Third/Sister Lovers) over.

Pleased to Meet Me starts off strong with ". U", a song that frequently exposes the Replacements' deep roots in classic rock. For some necessary clarification, when I use the term classic rock I don't mean the Eagles or the Rolling Stones or whatever the media is calling "classic" now. I'm talking about real rock and roll. Musicians like Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Dylan (even though he can't sing) and Neil Young. Hell, I'm even talking about the Stooges  . This is a Replacements album worth acquiring no matter who you are. Whether you are a longtime fan of someone who has never heard them before. This isn't just a good Replacement's album, it's a good album period.

Pleased to Meet Me is the only album recorded by the band as a trio. After their previous album Tim, guitarist Bob Stinson either was kicked out of the band (ostensibly for problems with drugs and alcohol, though most of the other Replacements also had serious substance abuse problems at the time) or quit on his own volition due to creative differences.
