De Sabata's career prospered in Fascist Italy. The two conductors remained estranged until after the War, when Toscanini resumed spending summers at his home in Milan. Toscanini was invited to conduct several benefit concerts with the La Scala Orchestra (but de Sabata was never invited to conduct the NBC Symphony). Today de Sabata is remembered primarily as the conductor of Puccini's Tosca with Callas, di Stefano and Gobbi.
