Known for her witty, rambling lyrics and deadpan singing style, she attracted attention with the release of her debut EP, I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris. Courtney Barnett started Milk! Records in 2012 to release her first EP I've Got A Friend Called Emily Ferris. Soon after came the second EP How To Carve A Carrot Into A Rose. She took her band overseas with a condensed back catalogue called The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas. In 2015 Barnett released album Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit to worldwide critical acclaim.

Courtney Barnett: I don't want people to misinterpret it as an album. The first thing I made last year was this EP called I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris that I recorded at a friend's place, and then I took a whole year to finish the second EP, which was recorded in a studio. Doing these two EPs feels like good practice. I was learning a lot of shitty lessons about not being organized and people taking too much money and stuff like that
