When Istvan Kertesz drowned while swimming in Israel, the world lost a major conductor of irresistible musicality and charm. The performance of the Haydn Variations is famous. I bought LP's of the complete Brahms symphonies a while back and have only now began listening to them and converting them over to my computer.
