2013 Cliburn Gold Medalist Vadym Kholodenko became the first-ever Artistic Partner with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra beginning in the 2014-2015 season. He joins them here for the conclusion of his complete cycle of Prokofiev’s piano concertos. The three works heard here were composed over a span of two decades (1911 to 1930) and were met with a widely uneven reception, ranging from the popularity and critical acclaim of Concerto No. 3, to incomprehension and neglect of No. 4.

Under the direction of Miguel Harth-Bedoya, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra recently named him its first artistic partner, a three-year collaboration that begins with performances of the complete Prokofiev concertos in the first two seasons, which will be recorded and released by harmonia mundi usa. He will also join them in a tour of Spain in May 2016-the orchestra’s first international tour in over 25 years. He will perform and record the Grieg Concerto in A Minor and Saint-Saëns Concerto No. 2 with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and Miguel Harth-Bedoya. Last season, Mr. Kholodenko was named the Mariinsky Theatre’s September Artist of the Month by Valery Gergiev.

In a work recorded as often as the Grieg this is a paradoxically risky career move, but Kholodenko's level of control is a thing of beauty in itself.
