Heaven knows that the Bergen Philharmonic and Ole Kristian Ruud know the music, and the orchestra deserves special praise for fine playing by its wind section–critical especially in the Norwegian Dances, the Lyric Suite, well, actually just about everywhere! The finale of the Symphonic Dances is particularly impressive in that it offers lively rhythm and real forward movement at a surprisingly moderate basic tempo (Raymond Leppard on Philips, for example, is a full two minutes faster, but not noticeably more interesting). Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra plays like they breathes this music, and Ruud leads his team to the Grieg's musical wonderland. Norwegian Dances (orchestrated by Hans Sitt) sounds movingly and freshly here. First dance is excellent, and the second dance is lovely. It begins cellos and basses quiet melody with first oboe's and first horn's answers  . I love it. Lyric Suite is nice bonus.
