On her latest album, Metals, Canadian singer-songwriter Leslie Feist . That album was released only four years ago, but Metals' dreary, grey aesthetic makes the distance between these two albums feel so much wider.
Feist wants Metals to reflect the earth's "raw, dormant ore" and it has an earthy, laid-back feel but "raw, dormant ore" isn't at all laid back, says Daniel Smith.
Whenever the tempo picks up, so does Feist’s desire to keep things weird, with songs like A Commotion pitting pizzicato strings against a half-chanted, half-shouted refrain performed by an army of male singers. But Metals does its best work at a slower speed, where Feist can stretch her vocals across fingerplucked guitar arpeggios and piano chords like cotton.
Metals is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Feist. It was released on September 30, 2011 in Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden and Belgium; October 3, 2011 in the United Kingdom; and October 4, 2011 in the United States and Canada. The first single from the album is "How Come You Never Go There", which was released on August 12, 2011. The album was supported by a world. Metals debuted on the US Billboard 200 at number 7, and sold 38,000 copies in its first week. It earned Feist's best sales week and it was her first top 10 album to chart in the US. The album received acclaim from critics.
On Metals Feist combines the sublime magic of her voice with songs that feature equally strong compositions to render an album that is easily one of the best of the year. There aren't any iPod commercials on this album but it is solid from beginning to end. Feist is making great music. This is an album by someone in it for the long haul, not by a pop princess. 1 of 3 users found this helpful.

It’s been four years since Leslie Feist broke through with her fourth solo album The Reminder, which scored four Grammy nominations, and her hit single, 1234, which helped sell boatloads of iPod Nanos, thanks to that ubiquitous Apple commercial. She’s remained relatively low-key after wrapping up a grueling world tour in 2008, but the Canadian singer-songwriter will end her break this fall with a new record Metals, due out Ocobter 4. For the album, Feist joined longtime collaborators Chilly Gonzalez and Mocky and worked up a dozen songs in Toronto.
