Billie Holiday is one of the greatest jazz singers of the 20th century (competing at the same level as Frank Sinatra & Ella Fitzgerald). Her friend tenor saxophonist Lester Young gave her the nickname Lady Day and their recordings together are some of her best, possessing a joy and playfulness not found in the emotional intensity of her later recordings
