Less of an intentionally confusing title than might be thought, Reilly for all intents and purposes is Durutti no matter the changes through the years - Vini Reilly does signal another new phase of the band's work, moving into a full embrace of technological possibilities via an Akai sampler

The album was the first to feature drummer and percussionist Bruce Mitchell. The song "The Missing Boy" is a tribute to songwriter Vini Reilly's friend and label-mate Ian Curtis of Joy Division, who committed suicide in the previous year. Remastered and expanded version of The Durutti Column 1989 album ‘Vini Reilly’ (Factory FACT 244), It consists of two discs: the original album re-mastered by Keir Stewart and a nine-track bonus disc of unheard studio out-takes from a session TDK tape which has been in the possession of Vini Reilly.

Vincent "Vini" Gerard Reilly (born 4 August 1953) is an English musician and leader of the post-punk group The Durutti Column. Reilly arranged music and played guitar on fellow Manchester artist Morrissey's first post-Smiths album Viva Hate in 1988. Reilly has also recorded with artists including John Cooper Clarke, Pauline Murray, Anne Clark, The Wake, Richard Jobson, Quando Quango, Craig Davies, Swing Out Sister and Holly Johnson (on his 2014 album Europa). He also attempted to produce the Happy Mondays' debut Forty Five . but found that he simply could not work with the band.

Vini Reilly (1989), also produced by Reilly and Street, features extensive use of sampling, with looped samples of vocalists (including Otis Redding, Tracy Chapman, Annie Lennox and Joan Sutherland) used as the basis for several tracks. An accompanying single, "The Together Mix", featured two reworkings of album tracks by Together, Jonathon Donaghy and Suddi Raval (Donaghy was killed in a car crash in Ibiza before the single was released). This was to be the last Durutti Column record released by Factory, in early 1991. 1990 onwards: after Factory.

Vini Reilly from The Durutti Column is a big influence and inspiration as is her immediate environment. With Manchester’s Fletcher Moss Park especially inspiring. Her debut album Awaken was released on the 12th October 2018 on Gondwana Records. A deeply collaborative recording, co-produced by Matthew Halsall, Caoilfhionn and members of the band it is a rich tapestry that draws on folk, psychedelia and subtle electronica influences to produce something expansive, fragile and experimental.
