Jane Brockman’s concert music is influenced by her experience composing for dance and film, as well as the formal structure of academia. Raised in upstate New York, Brockman was the first woman to earn a Doctorate in Music Composition in the 150-year history of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She also studied in Paris with Max Deutsch on a Fulbright/ Alliance Française fellowship and in Vienna on a Rackham Prize fellowship. She has been awarded honors and fellowships from the MacDowell Colony (3 years), the State of Connecticut, Meet the Composer, and the Composers Conference (directed.

It consists of extended tracks from the soundtracks of three films. The first track is from the soundtrack of the film Mrs. Soffel (1984). The second track is from the documentary The Times of Harvey Milk. This film won the 1984 Academy Award for best documentary. The material of the third track is from the Carroll Ballard film, Never Cry Wolf (1983).

Birkin emerged in the swinging '60s in London, starring as one of the models in the controversial film Blowup in 1966. In 1968, Birkin went to France to audition for the lead female role in Slogan. Though she did not speak French, she got the role.
