Zorro was Walt Disney's first prime-time half-hour series and it benefits greatly from Disney's keen eye for casting, storytelling genius, and high production values. The cast includes Henry Calvin as the bumbling and rotund Sergeant Garcia and Gene Sheldon as Diego's trusty, mute right-hand man Bernardo (the two actors were later paired as the Laurel & Hardy-esque characters in Disney's Babes in Toyland). Zorro deftly blends action and comedy in its first season, with no mushy romance to slow things down.

Zorro is an American action-adventure western series produced by Walt Disney Productions. Based on the Zorro character created by Johnston McCulley, the series premiered on October 10, 1957 on ABC. The final network broadcast was July 2, 1959. Seventy-eight episodes were produced, and 4 hour-long specials were aired on the Walt Disney anthology series between October 30, 1960 and April 2, 1961.

The Walt Disney Zorro series has several important ties to past versions of Zorro. The outstanding music for Zorro's Fighting Legion was composed by William Lava, who also did the excellent music for the Disney series. During some episodes of the Disney series, the music sounds very similar to what was heard in Zorro's Fighting Legion. George J. Lewis starred in Zorro's Black Whip and had a minor role in Ghost of Zorro before starring as Don Alejandro in the Disney series. William Witney had previously directed Zorro Rides Again and Zorro's Fighting Legion before directing.
