Ritual Spirit is an EP by British trip hop group Massive Attack, released on 28 January 2016. It features trip hop artist Tricky for the first time since the release of Protection in 1994, and also features Scottish hip-hop group Young Fathers, London rapper Roots Manuva and singer Azekel

Massive Attack contacted relative newcomer, London based soul singer, Azekel Adesuyi, in 2015 to collaborate together on Ritual Spirit which would go on to be the title track of the EP released in Januray 2016. On the subsequent tour that followed, Azekel joined Massive Attack on stage to perform Ritual Spirit each night of the tour. It was Azekel first time as part of a major live tour. Massive Attack have released a new EP called Ritual Spirit. The four-track release marks the return of this week's RA Exchange subject, Tricky, who features on "Take It There. Young Fathers, Azekel and Roots Manuva also appear on the EP, which was produced by 3D and came out today via Virgin/EMI. The songs first appeared on a new iPhone app called Fantom that the outfit announced last week. Massive Attack have another EP and an album coming later in 2016. I see a bunch of people complaining about paying 20 for a 4 track EP. How the crapsack did you not know what it was? Did you all just buy it not knowing the track list? That's no ones fault but yours. The EP is amazing, and it was put together BY HAND and screen printed, not by machine. It's super rare in my opinion and will be worth a lot in the future.

Update: After my experience (see below) I have decided that I will never buy any massive attack ever again.it was bad enough that I got charged £20 for a 4-track 12" single but when I saw that their new 12" was pretty much the same price I was disgusted.You're good guys,you're not THAT good.you don't see fsol charging £20 for a 4 track ep.this is a shame,a damn shame.gutted.

This was a big mistake on MA's part. You don't mis-advertise a product and then grossly overcharge for a roughly 20 minute EP. Aside from the Ltd editions (which imo are also highly suspect value wise) this venture was an extremely crass move that could easily lose them some die-hard fans, like myself. Shame.

£20 wow break the bank why don't ya....it is one of the best ep's they have ever done...the work behind it justifies the price and you can always buy the download for £1 a song

Additionally, and hopefully to their credit, Sandbag offered a refund. So I'll take them up on it and see how it goes, obviously requesting that they pay for the return shipping.

Quick follow-up, I did get refunded for 1 of the 2 copies I bought, and they decided that I should keep it anyway; very nice way to smooth over this not-so-great deal:)

Not a double as advertised. I complained and got the "sorry, misprint" email. Wouldn't have bought this 4 track EP for 20 pounds, very hard to swallow. Having said that, my pressing is dead quiet, quite remarkable really. NOT recommended for that price, they should be ashamed.

The regular ritual spirit ep not a double EP and is available on amazon for 29 euros plus shipping with the title "limited edition" which is a fake, this version is not limited at all and you can find it here on discogs for a lower price.

great 12’’. But what a rip-off price and what a wrong way to do marketing. Its NOT a 2 vinyl. Its not a ep, its a 12’’ but priced as an album. Still 4 good tracks, too pricey. and where is printed 4 colour process + special screen printed 5th colour orange ?

"4-colour centre labels" Eh? Mine's B&W. Grey vinyl and screen printed orange text on front sleeve but otherwise a bog standard 12" EP. I wonder how many copies will sit unopened with 'dealers' - it's not that ltd so hopefully many will actually be played and enjoyed.

Limited to 300 pressings worldwide.This particular sleeve is one of the 200 limited run that was only available at the launch of the Ritual Spirit exhibition which opened on February 3rd 2016 at the Lazirides Editions gallery in London.The run of 200 pressings was split into 4 editions with 4 different sleeve designs.Each sleeve is actually only 1 of 50 produced which was hand finished and numbered at the gallery studios by 3D (Robert Del Naja) himself and therefore each sleeve is unique.

According to here: http://www.lazinc.com/exhibitions/1317,3d-massive-attack-ritual-spirit 300 were pressed, with only 200 available to purchase from the venue (at £30 each...). The remaining 100 will be available to purchase from the Berlin venue after the exhibition moves there at the end of the London run on 5th March.
