Aggressive and ultra-confident, ‘Nothing Was The Same’ is arguably Drake’s most consistently thrilling album, more than living up to its title. Published on. September 24, 2018. Unsurprisingly, the Canadian rapper’s newfound status as one of hip-hop’s most vital crossover artists fed into the aggressive, ultra-confident tone of his third album, 2013’s Nothing Was The Same. Riding the crest of a wave, Drake had spent much of 2012 touring in support of Take Care, while also finding time to start the record label OVO Sound with his longtime producer Noah 40 Shebib, and embarking on sessions for his next album

Nothing Was the Same is Drake and 40's most audacious experiment yet in how far inward they can push their sound; a lot of the album sounds like a black hole of all 40's previous productions being sucked into the center. Song-to-song transitions, which have always been melty and blurry, are more notional than ever  . There is an intriguing whiff of third act rot hanging in the air on Nothing Was the Same, and because Drake is such a deft micro-manager of his own narrative, he's drawing our attention to it, telegraphing it in his lyrics and dramatizing the sense that whatever he does after this album, it can't quite be this again. He's "somewhere between psychotic and iconic" on "Furthest Thing", promising to "break everyone off before I break down

Drake’s third album, "Nothing Was the Same," officially dropped today (Sept. 24), but the Internet has already been buzzing about the album for the past week after it leaked online Sunday, Sept. 15. Drake’s often emotional, melody-driven songs have fueled a great deal of online conversation about the song’s lyrics, much of which have taken place on lyrics annotations mega-hub Rap Genius.

Not even Drake's own life. The irony of 'Nothing Was the Same' is that while it will undoubtedly further push him into iconic status, the album seeks to debunk this myth as he paints himself as a flawed human being rather than just a figure. Relationships are broken, trust is hard to come by and the thorns of the Greatest Rapper crown begins to show itself. Nothing Was the Same' is noticeably darker than its two predecessors - 'Thank Me Later' and 'Take Care.

Nothing Was the Same wrestles Drake’s successes with his ever-lingering insecurities, and like some of the best music, we can see ourselves in these songs. Back in 2013 Drake's third Album, Nothing Was the Same is a great album. Drake continues to improve his bars and his flow even better. The Beats are straight up on fire, and the production is dope. I love the songs from the album.
