Lacks any kind of spark and sits as one of Bad Religion's worst releases. First impressions of No Substance are fairly poor. The album gets off to something of a false start however with Hear It : it’s actually a very good song. Kicking the album off in a similar fashion to Sinister Rouge (without the Goth choir); it’s fast, aggressive and doesn’t pull any lyrical punches.

No Control is the fourth album by American punk rock band Bad Religion, released on November 2, 1989 through Epitaph Records. Bad Religion began work on the album while touring in support of its previous album, Suffer (1988). No Control is stylistically faster than its predecessor, owing more to hardcore punk. Additionally, it was the first Bad Religion album not to feature a lineup change from after one consecutive studio album.

This is the record that took Bad Religion from being a premiere punk band to becoming something far bigger. Featuring iconic cover art by Fred Hidalgo, "Recipe For Hate" retains the band's hallmark energy and rebellion exemplified by the classic "American Jesus," but the sonic palette has been slightly expanded. With "Struck A Nerve" the album featured the band's first song to be played on radio since their debut seven inch. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blond contribute guest vocals
