Description

All Mod Cons is the third studio album by British band The Jam, released in 1978 by Polydor Records. The title, a British idiom one might find in housing advertisements, is short for "all modern conveniences" and is a pun on the band's association with the mod revival. The album reached No. 6 in the UK Albums Chart. The album was reissued in the US in 1979, with the song "The Butterfly Collector" replacing "Billy Hunt".

All Mod Cons was recorded between r 1978 at RAK Studios and Eden Studios. Original album released in 1978. Two-Disc Special Package Of The Classic Jam Album. Disc 1 Remastered original album, B-Sides, Unreleased Demos & Rarities. Disc 2 'The Making Of All Mod Cons' DVD Film. Deluxe Packaging - new liner notes, new interviews & rare period photos.

The Jam's commercial and artistic success continued to grow after the change of tack calculated at 'All Mod Cons', culminating in number one chart positions for their final album 'The Gift' and its single 'Town Called Malice'. All Mod Cons, released to wide acclaim in 1978, firmly cemented the group's rise to extraordinary heights. Indeed, for many it was the first essential Jam album and listening to it now its impact has not diminished over time. The album was the sound of an English youth movement and it marked a great leap forward in songwriting maturity and sense of purpose. It's an absolute belter from start to finish and contains some of their strongest material with classic songs such as "English Rose", "To Be Someone" and "David Watts". It goes without saying that fans of The Jam and Weller will just adore this! This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Licence. It was Leif Garrett, Suzi Quatro, Country music, Elvis and Slim Whitman for me until someone brought a record of The Jam's All Mod Cons on the school bus one morning. I got a copy and BAM! Mind was blown.

All Mod Cons fully demonstrates Paul Wellers virtuoso songwriting skills, Foxtons influential bass playing and Buckler's rock solid drumming. The Jam were a band that were very different to the other Punk bands of the time. They weren't as intimidating as the The damned nor were they as aggressive as the Sex Pistols but the Jam provided something different to the 70's punk scene. 8. It's Too Bad - Great, meaningfull lyrics backed by the typical Jam melodies. A strong track that helps keep the album flowing and is a pleasure to listen to. 5/5. 9. Fly - A much slower song that helps bring the tempo of the album down again. A nice song that begins to pick up as it goes on.

So while I agree that AMC was the most important album of The Jam's career, it only consistently pretty to really good, and indisputably great in only one case. The trio of songs that open All Mod Cons includes the vitriolic title track, with verses that stumble over themselves as the guitar, bass, and drums stomp along in unison.
