All Mod Cons is the third studio album by British band The Jam, released in 1978 by Polydor Records. The title, a British idiom one might find in housing advertisements, is short for "all modern conveniences" and is a pun on the band's association with the mod revival. The album reached No. 6 in the UK Albums Chart. The album was reissued in the US in 1979, with the song "The Butterfly Collector" replacing "Billy Hunt".

The Jam regrouped and refocused for All Mod Cons, an album that marked a great leap in songwriting maturity and sense of purpose.
The Jam were an English punk rock/New Wave/mod revival band active during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Missing lyrics by The Jam? Know any other songs by The Jam?
Following up 1978’s hugely successful ‘All Mod Cons’, The Jam were one of the hottest groups around, surviving through the 1977’s initial ‘year zero’ punk blitz, really only along with The Clash and The Damned. This is further emphasised by ‘Setting Sons’; It contains The Eton Rifles’ and ‘Smithers-Jones’, both great singles.

The Jam had released their sophomore 1977 LP, 'This Is The Modern World' just a couple of weeks after the infamous Sex Pistols record. While songs such as 'Time For Truth' were political, referring to the current Labour prime minister James Callaghan (Uncle Jimmy), The Jam were a very different kind of outfit to the anarchic Sex Pistols. Some critics and fans were confused about where The Jam were coming from with their modish patriotic themes, reminiscent of those found on Village Green Preservation Society or The Who in one of their flag wearing moments. It was the direction that led to The Jam's next LP 'Setting Sons' pulling no punches with its big songs 'Eton Rifles', 'Going Underground' and 'Little Soldiers'. Woking has a bit of a stockbroker belt on its outskirts.
