THE END OF YEAR CHART SHOW - 1978 The Top 40 of the year 1978 Simon Bates - BBC Radio One Sunday 31st of December 1978 5 pm to 7 pm VHF STEREO At last normal service was resumed !! After six years of depriving the listeners of the charts presented on the VHF network by curtailing the two hours that Pick of the Pops had enjoyed down to just one for Solid Gold Sixty. It was broadcast in stereo between 5 and 7 pm Sunday evenings. This setup remained in place right up until the 10th of July 2015 when the charts were moved to a Friday, partly because the way the sales figures were calculated changed and partly because (as with so much modern radio) the listening figures had plummeted. Thank the lord and the archivists that we can still enjoy great radio like this.
