The Wonderful & Frightening World and Nation's Saving Grace are The Fall at their most artistic and diverse. gloworm July 9, 2018. As others have already mentioned, "2 x 4" presents a pile-driver dance tune of a type that the Fall would come up with again and again. Pat-Trip Dispenser" sounds like a 1960s American garage-punk offering, but more unhinged.
The Fall made the leap to a semi-major label - Beggars Banquet - with The Wonderful and Frightening World of the Fall, hooking up with noted producer John Leckie to create another smart, varied album. Contemporaneous with the slightly friendlier "Oh! Brother" and ". singles without actually including them, Wonderful and Frightening World makes few concessions to the larger market - every potential hook seemed spiked with the band's usual rough take-it-or-leave-it stance. Though unquestionably the most conventionally attractive tune on the album, ringing guitars and all, Smith's lyrics portray a Disneyland scenario in hell, however softly delivered. Elsewhere, Gavin Friday from the Virgin Prunes takes a bow with his own unmistakable, spindly vocals on the trebly Krautrock chug of "Copped It" and the slightly more brute rhythm of "Stephen Song.

The Best of Joy Division.
This Nation's Saving Grace is the eighth studio album by English post-punk band the Fall. It was released in 1985 by Beggars Banquet, and is widely considered one of their masterpieces. Paul Hanley left the Fall in November 1984, leaving Karl Burns as the sole drummer and ending the band's classic dual drummer lineup.
The Fall’s winning dash would go on for a few more years, though as the 80’s rolled over, their frenetic productivity was starting to tangle their laces, albums being cut down by slapdash writing and sloppy production. They were also drifting drastically out of fashion, as the 90’s signaled a shift towards a bigger, poppier sound. The Wonderful and Frightening World catches them at an indelible moment, a thrillingly nettled band, at the height of their powers, trying to smash themselves to pieces.
Profile of The Fall, one of the most enigmatic, idiosyncratic and chaotic garage bands of the last 30 years, led by the belligerent and poetic Mark E Smith. This is the first time that Mark E Smith has agreed to the story being told on television and he along with many of the major players take us through this unique English rock 'n' roll story. It is told alongside footage of their most recent and sadly now last Peel Session recorded in August 2004 at the BBC Maida Vale studios, and there is also film of John playing out the session at Peel Acres a week later. Contributors include past and present band members such as Marc Riley, Una Baines, Steve Hanley, Ben Pritchard and Eleni Smith, plus thoughts from key fans/critics including Paul.
