It took 12 years of waiting it out as "Spiral Stairs," co-founder and guitarist of Pavement, but Scott Kannberg is finally stepping to the front with his band Preston School Of Industry with 'Falling Away', the new single from the album 'All This Sounds Gas'. Domino Recording Company is an independent record label founded in 1993.

All This Sounds Gas. "Please retry". For a while, it looked like Kannberg was going to become the man that alt-rock forgot. Going under the pseudonym Spiral Stairs, Kannberg was the founding member of the charming Pavement along with Stephen Malkmus; it was his laconic, effortlessly gorgeous guitar lines that elevated albums such as Slanted and Enchanted above the rest of the shambolic indie-pop crop.

In 2001, Preston School of Industry released All This Sounds Gas. The band released its second album, Monsoon, in 2004, with studio contributions from members of The Minus 5 and Wilco. Preston School of Industry went inactive after their September 2004 Australian tour, though Kannberg revealed in late 2006 he had been slowly working on a record: "Don't know when it's going to be released. Just taking my time, nothing special. I've got the songs, I just haven't figured out how I want to do it yet. This winter, I'll probably get it done

There’s plenty of other clues too. Because, despite Preston School Of Industry being named after a Bay Area reform school, Kannberg is not in penitent. Thus the warm anthemic scamper of ‘Whale Bones’ and the seven-minute unravel of ‘Encyclopedic Knowledge Of’. (both originally written for. ‘Terror Twilight’) lead the majority of songs here in displaying the layered fuzzy logic you’d expect. Yet not everything is so familiar. Hence ‘Falling Away’ jangles merrily like The Cure perched on a cliff, and ‘A Treasure @ Silver Bank’ dabbles in alternative country.
