Moreland - a member of one of . s first punk rock bands, the Skulls - founded the more sophisticated group Wall Of Voodoo in 1978 with vocalist Stan Ridgway. The band recorded six albums for IRS from 1980-88; its song "Mexican Radio" became an early MTV staple and reached No. 58 on The Billboard Hot 100. Moreland later backed Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde and recorded under his own name. He had just released a solo album, "Take It to the Spotlight," under the moniker Marc Moreland's Mess

In 2002 Moreland released his first and only solo album, titled Take it to the Spotlight, which is the only album which features Moreland on lead vocals. The album was released on California-based Kitchen Whore Records, and featured contributions from PJ Harvey's John Parish and Jean-Marc Butty. Moreland is the subject of the song "Joey" by Concrete Blonde. Lead singer Johnette Napolitano wrote the song about being in love with an alcoholic, and confirmed the song was about Moreland in the Concrete Blonde . Sessions concert in 2002  .
